Valuation for Financial Reporting Intermediate
Co-Sponsored by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA), BECKMILL EDUCATION, LLC, and Marshall & Stevens

This course is designed to distinguish valuations for financial reporting from valuations for other purposes. The definition the FASB came up with, 'Fair Value’, differs from Fair Market Value. There are three types of work for valuation specialists: 1) Allocation of purchase price for a business combination, 2) Testing Amortizable Intangibles and PP&E for Impairment, and 3) Testing Goodwill for Impairment. The presentation will also cover the need to work closely with the client’s auditing firm, as all values used in financial reports are reviewed by auditors and their review may differ from that of the IRS or the courts.

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • List the FASB requirements for Purchase Price allocation, including valuation of intangibles
  • Prepare a supportable impairment study for PP&E and amortizable intangibles using un discounted cash flow, and a FV determination if the asset(s) don’t pass
  • Outline a plan to work with auditors and clients in performing Step 1 of the Goodwill testing requirements and understand what is involved if you have to go to Step 2
